The foundation is the base of the house and we chose to do it with stone, strong raw material enough to support the weight of the mud walls and green roof. Another option would be to use tires or superadobe (sandbags), but the stones were also chosen for their lower impact on nature, ease of finding them in the region and the aesthetic result of the project.

To understand a little how it was made: after plainning the terrain, we dug a ditch in 0,80X0,80cm throughout the design of the house and inside of it we put a layer of gravel to drain rainwater and distribute the weight of the walls. Soon after we entered with a "puzzle" of stones, a thorough job of fitting the pieces and "paste" them with cement. It was two months of hard work and will power of more than 50 volunteers who built this great strength of wall in the hot sun of the Bahian summer!

The foundation, which is also important for elevate the walls and prevent any contact splash of water that permeates the soilis 60cm high and 60cm wide. There were about 12 cubic meters of gravel, 10 of stone and 34 bags of cement, that is for a more or less 120m house. .

Gratitude to everyone who helped to finnish this super important phase of the house, a little of each of you will be forever with us, the strength and love of that foundation!
